Sips + Spellwork: The Lavender-Rose Latte
Nature is in bloom, and so are we! Springtime ushers in an undeniable magick that you can feel, see, and— with recipes like this one— taste. Because this season celebrates the beauty of renewal, rebirth, and the start of the astrological new year, I wanted to celebrate this shift with a seasonal spell that can be truly savored: the lavender-rose latte.
Yes, of course an iced latte can be a spell; like any other working, it is crafted with intention, and uses ingredients chosen for their magickal correspondences in order to evoke a certain mood + support a specific outcome.
With aromatic lavender, sensual rose, non-dairy milk, espresso, and a pinch of salt, this seasonal indulgence is a beautiful way to weave the essence of self-love, attraction, and spiritual protection into an everyday spring morning.
Of course, the star of the show here is the dried lavender and rose petals used to make the simple syrup used to flavor the latte. You can find culinary-grade lavender and rose at most herb or specialty witch shops, health food stores, or from online vendors. Aside from these dried flowers, all you’ll need to make a delicious, floral syrup is sugar, water, a saucepan, a whisk, and a little salt.

LAVENDER-ROSE SYRUP
200g cold water
200g granulated sugar (I used Domino)
5g dried lavender (food-grade; I used the brand From Great Origins)
5g dried rose petals (food-grade; I purchased from Ginger’s Roots)
kosher salt— just a pinch to taste
In a saucepan, whisk together the water and sugar before setting on the stove on medium heat. Whisk occasionally while heating.
Bring this mixture to a boil; allow to boil for about one minute and then shut off the heat.
Add a pinch of salt, the dried lavender, and rose to the simple syrup and whisk it all in to steep.
Cover the saucepan and allow the flowers to steep in the syrup for at least 30 minutes.
Strain the syrup into a glass container of your choice, and allow to cool thoroughly.
Making the syrup was the “hard” part. Once you’ve got it finished, cooled, and ready to go, you’re ready to build yourself an iced lavender-rose latte! Everyone has different tastes and sweetness levels, so add just a little syrup to start with and you can always add more later if needed.
To my glass, I poured in about an ounce of lavender-rose before filling it to the top with ice. I then poured unsweetened vanilla almond milk on top, filling the glass a little over ¾ of the way to leave room for the espresso. After adding the double-shot of espresso, I gave the latte a good stir to make sure all of the syrup was nicely incorporated.
Honestly, this drink came out so well-balanced. Slightly floral, sweet, strong, and energizing— actual spring in a glass.
